Headnotes in Westlaw

  • Once you have located a promising case, read the headnotes at the top of the case. If the legal concept for which you are looking is in the headnotes, use the headnote (click the number to the left of the headnote text) to navigate to the section of the case where that legal topic is discussed to determine if the case is relevant.
