Most circulating materials from the Legal Information Center are due October 1. Materials may be renewed online or by contacting the Legal Information Center Circulation Desk.
Smathers Libraries materials are due April 1 or October 1 depending on the date of checkout or renewal. Other materials are due as stated when checked out. Many materials may be renewed online at http://uf.catalog.fcla.edu/uf.jsp?A=1&Login=1.
Interlibrary loan materials and materials from libraries outside of the University of Florida are due as set by the lending library and due date is provided at checkout. Please contact the Legal Information Center Circulation Desk with questions.
If you would like to borrow materials from the Legal Information Center, we encourage you to contact your library liaison who will pull the materials you request and put them in your faculty mailbox.
The search box below searches just the Legal Information Center holdings.
The Legal Information Center will consider requests for new materials to add to the library collection from faculty members if the materials fit within our collection parameters and budget. A form is available at https://law-ufl.libwizard.com/f/material-suggestion in order to make such a request. We can also assist you with the purchase of books and media for your personal use by charging materials to your Personal Development Account (PDA).
Law faculty have the privilege of being able to request materials from other UF libraries and have them delivered to the Legal Information Center. Once you have located a relevant item in the University of Florida Libraries catalog, make sure you are logged in with your Gatorlink id using the "Renewals/Library Account" button at the top of the screen. If you are logged in, a blue "Request" link should appear towards the bottom of the screen next to the Note field. Click the "Request" link. A message will appear stating "Hold was successfully placed." When the materials arrive at the Legal Information Center, you will receive an email. Please be aware that transfer may take one to two days.
If you change your mind about an item you have requested before it arrives, you may cancel requests by clicking on the "Requests" button at the top of the screen and then clicking "Cancel."
If you have difficulty making requests, please contact your library liaison for assistance.
UBorrow is a program that allows you to quickly and easily place requests for materials held by other Florida university libraries. Due to cost savings and speed of delivery, UBorrow is preferable to interlibrary loan if the material is available. If you have searched the University of Florida Libraries catalog and determined that the item you seek is not held by any of the UF libraries, click the "Search Other FL Academic Libraries" in the box on the left hand side of the screen. You will be taken to the Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC) search. Alternatively, you can search the FALSC shared catalog at https://union.discover.flvc.org/ux.jsp. If the item is available, a navy blue UBorrow button will appear. Click that button to start the process. For pickup location, select "Legal Information Center." Click the "Place Request" button. Your request will be automatically processed and you will receive an email when the materials are ready to be picked up at the Legal Information Center Circulation Desk.
If the item you are interested in is not available through UBorrow, we may be able to obtain it through interlibrary loan. (ILL) Please view the information on the ILL process below.
If materials are not available through Smathers Libraries, you may place a request for the Legal Information Center to attempt to borrow the material from another library in the United States through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). You can also request articles, chapters, or pages from books through ILL.
To place an Interlibrary Loan request, please submit an Interlibrary Loan request at https://uflib.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/fub/logon.html.
Note that books may take anywhere from one to two weeks to arrive through ILL. Requests for scans from books or articles usually arrive electronically within one week.
We will attempt to obtain any item requested through ILL. However, due to current circumstances, ILL may take longer to facilitate or items may be unavailable as many libraries are not participating in ILL at this time.
You may set up proxy borrower privileges which will allow another person to check out books on your account and pick up materials requested from other libraries. To set this up, please complete the proxy borrower form at https://www.law.ufl.edu/_pdf/library/Proxy%20Borrower%20Application.pdf. After completion and verification of the proxy borrower form, you will be issued a proxy borrower card that you can provide to your proxy borrower. Please contact Access Services Manager Elisa O'Malley if you have any questions about the proxy borrower process.
