A guide to researching employers for in the OCI process and resources for advice for those pursuing legal careers.

The OCI Process

Each year the Office of Career and Professional Development hosts one of the region's largest On-Campus Interview (OCI) programs for employers to interview law students for summer and permanent employment.

The resources listed in this guide give students a better understanding of the practice areas, attorney profiles, recruiting information, news, annual reports (if available), diversity and inclusion practices, and pro bono work done by firms.

Law.com Compass

Law.Com Compass (formerly known as Legal Compass) delivers rankings of the Am Law 200 and NLJ 500 as well as details and comparisons of firms’ financials, staffing, clients, news and events. Explore data on revenue, profits, headcount, and clients, as well as the latest news on firms.

Leadership Connect

Leadership Connect provides high-quality contact information for over 500,000 leaders of 40,000 United States government, business, professional, and nonprofit organizations. The Leadership Connect database, updated daily online, includes the data from all 14 published Yellow Book directories and offers the ability to browse, search, and build lists with a sophisticated and user-friendly interface.

Vault Career Insider

Vault is best known for its many different law firm rankings. Vault also provides law firm profiles, which include lawyer surveys, and excellent e-book guides.

Bloomberg Law

Litigation Analytics, Company Profiles, including People Profiles for attorneys, Client Newsletters, and Patent Filings provide a robust source for firm research.

Lexis Advance

Legal News, Law 360, and Litigation Profile Suite proivde information about law firms and attorneys. Law 360 also provides a number of rankings and may offer more information about firms, including clients that they represent.

Lexis Securities Mosaic

Lexis Securities Mosaic, in the Current Awareness section, has a database of Law Firm Memos and another database of Law Firm Relationships.  The former contains client memos, and the latter lets you see which law firms do the most work for particular public companies.

Westlaw

Westlaw Profiler allows you to search a directory of attorneys, judges, law firms, and courts with links to cases, dockets, briefs, motions, and other filings.

Additional Resources

Chambers and Partners contains directories and reviews of firms based on client-focused criteria.
Chambers Associate is a student focused website with information about law firms including reviews.
Legal 500 analyzes the capabilities of law firms across a variety of practice areas and gives a detailed overview of those practice areas along with identifying prominent firms and attorneys by practice area.
The Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory is a database of more than one million lawyers and law firms in 160 countries.

The NALP Directory of Legal Employers is a comprehensive and free solution for researching legal employers. The NALP Directory provides specific information on law firms, government agencies, public interest organizations, and corporations, including lawyer demographics, practice areas, compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion practices, and other valuable information about legal employers.
