Faculty Borrowing

Due Dates

Most circulating materials from the Legal Information Center are due October 1. Materials may be renewed online or by contacting the Legal Information Center Circulation Desk.

Smathers Libraries materials are due April 1 or October 1 depending on the date of checkout or renewal. Other materials are due as stated when checked out. Many materials may be renewed online by logging in to your library account at https://ufl-flvc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/account?vid=01FALSC_UFL:UFL&section=overview.

Interlibrary loan materials and materials from libraries outside of the University of Florida are due as set by the lending library and due date is provided at checkout. Please contact the Legal Information Center Circulation Desk with questions.

Borrowing LIC Materials

If you would like to borrow materials from the Legal Information Center, you are always welcome to browse the stacks. Alternatively, you can contact your library liaison and they will pull the materials you request and put them in your faculty mailbox.

The search box below searches just the Legal Information Center holdings.

The Legal Information Center will consider requests for new materials to add to the library collection from faculty members if the materials fit within our collection parameters and budget. A form is available at https://law-ufl.libwizard.com/f/material-suggestion in order to make such a request. We can also assist you with the purchase of books and media for your personal use by charging materials to your Personal Development Account (PDA).

Borrowing from Other Florida Libraries

UBorrow is a program that allows you to quickly and easily place requests for materials held by other Florida university libraries. Due to cost savings and speed of delivery, UBorrow is preferable to interlibrary loan if the material is available. If you have searched the University of Florida Libraries catalog and determined that the item you seek is not held by any of the UF libraries, type your search into the box and select search Statewide Catalog. If you a signed in and the item is available at another Florida institution, a white UBorrow Request box will appear under How To Get It. Click that button to start the process. For pickup location, select "UF Legal Information Center." Click the "Send Request" button. Your request will be automatically processed and you will receive an email when the materials are ready to be picked up at the Legal Information Center Circulation Desk.

If the item you are interested in is not available through UBorrow, we may be able to obtain it through interlibrary loan. (ILL) Please view the information on the ILL process below.

Proxy Borrowing

You may set up proxy borrower privileges which will allow another person to check out books on your account and pick up materials requested from other libraries. To set this up, please complete the proxy borrower form at https://accesssupport.uflib.ufl.edu/borrowing/circ-forms/proxy-borrower-application/.  After completion and verification of the proxy borrower form, you will be issued a proxy borrower card that you can provide to your proxy borrower. Please contact Assistant Director for Public Services Elizabeth Hilkin if you have any questions about the proxy borrower process.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

If materials are not available through Smathers Libraries, you may place a request for the Legal Information Center to attempt to borrow the material from another library in the United States through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). You can also request articles, chapters, or pages from books through ILL.

To place an Interlibrary Loan request, please submit the request at https://law-ufl.libwizard.com/f/LIC-document-delivery.

Note that books may take anywhere from one to two weeks to arrive through ILL. Requests for scans from books or articles usually arrive electronically within one week.
