Words of Wisdom BEFORE you begin your research

  • Plan ahead. Allow yourself enough time to find, read, and analyze your research materials

              before your drafts are due.

  • Track your research. Create a research log to keep a complete record of the resources you used

in your paper. Your log will also help you with your citations for your bibliography page.

  • Stay focused on your topic. Always stay focused on what you need to research at the stage you

are in. You can always go back to good sources later.

Terms and Connectors

There are two basic types of full-text searching methods:
  • Natural language searches (Google searching, plain language)
  • Boolean searches a.k.a. terms and connectors searches

The Terms and Connectors search method allows you to enter a query that consists of key terms from your issue and connectors specifying the relationship between those terms. You would use this search method when you are searching for particular terms or want to retrieve all available documents containing your search terms.
